Click here to view all obituariesOur family, "The McKenzie Family", have been in the Funeral Profession since 1946 with Don McKenzie working at various funeral homes in Vancouver & West Vancouver.
Don met Jessie and married in 1948. In 1968 they were given the opportunity to purchase Hollyburn Funeral Home in West Vancouver from the "Walsh" family. As in true family funeral home tradition, George McKenzie (eldest son of Don & Jessie) began working at Hollyburn at the age of fourteen answering phones and helping his dad on services. George then went to B.C.I.T where he received his Diploma & License as a Funeral Director & Licensed Embalmer. He also received the "Professionalism Award" for his class.
In 1988, George & Mildred bought Squamish Funeral Chapel & installed their own crematorium to service both Hollyburn & the Sea to Sky Corridor.
After the passing of Don & Jessie McKenzie, George & Mildred separated from Hollyburn Funeral Home in 1995. Since then they have lived in Squamish and have been active members in the Sea to Sky Corridor. They believe a funeral is similar to other ceremonies in our lives. Like a graduation ceremony, a wedding, or baptism a funeral is a rite of passage by which we recognize an important event that distinguishes our lives.
"No two people are alike, so no two funerals should be the same"
In recent years, we've gathered together a staff of highly qualified and deeply caring individuals to assist us in continuing the funeral home's mission of providing excellence in service to families in their time of need.
Our reputation for providing the highest quality of service grew, and today we are privileged to serve hundreds of area families each year.
George & Mildred have five children and are very involved in their community with George being active with the Rotary Club, The Squamish Hospital Foundation Committee, and the Masonic Lodge. George also plays the trumpet in a 10 piece horn band, that plays at various fundraisers though the Sea to Sky Corridor & Lower Mainland. Mildred served on the Board of Directors for the BC Funeral Service Association for ten years and enjoys spending time with her children. The McKenzie Family also enjoys showing, competing, and breeding quarter horse. Families come daily to their barn property to visit and see their horses.
