Obituary for
Ronald Kenneth Anderson
It is with broken hearts that we announce the passing of Ronald Kenneth Anderson, of Squamish B.C. on August 2, 2016 surrounded by his loving family after fighting a 2 year battle with cancer.
Ron will be greatly missed by his devoted wife of 28 years, Debbie, his daughter, Amanda, (Ignacio), and his son, Jesse, his mother Jannie, his sister Diana, his 3 brothers, Ed (Bonnie), Les and Jim, his mother, father, brothers and sisters in law, nieces, nephews, aunts & uncles, cousins, friends and colleagues. He is predeceased by his father Jim and his sister in law Brenda.
Ron was born in Edmonton Alberta, May 3, 1952. His early career was spent in Richmond where he worked for an auto import terminal, Fraser Wharves, for 18 years. In 1989 he moved with his wife and daughter to Squamish, BC to join Squamish Terminals as Vice President of Operations. In 2001 he was promoted to President and CEO – a position he held proudly until his retirement in 2014 after 25 years of service.
Ron was a well-respected businessman and prominent community member who showed commitment, dedication and passion in the many organizations, clubs and service groups he was part of. He was a pioneer on the Squamish Chamber of Commerce for over 2 decades, the Chair of the Mayors transportation committee for 4 years, he served on the Board of the BC Maritime Association for 12 years and the Waterfront Foreman’s Employers Association for 15 years, an active member and Past President of the Squamish Rotary Club, 17 years on the Board of the West Coast Railway Association and Board member or volunteer on countless other advisory groups and organizations both locally and Provincially. He was a true gentleman, whose patient and calm demeanor influenced many as friend, colleague, advisor and mentor.
Many thanks to the medical community for helping our family along this journey: nurses, Pam and Tiffany at Squamish General Hospital and Gillian and Mary at Lions Gate Hospital and Dr. Jean Van Eden, Dr. Sasha Similchuk, and Dr. Paul Sugar who held our hands and guided us with care and compassion.
We would be honored for your attendance at Ron’s Celebration of Life – August 15th, 2016 at 2:00 p.m. at The West Coast Railway Heritage Park - 39645 Government Road, Squamish, B.C. In lieu of flowers, donations to the Squamish Rotary Club can be made at squamishrotary.com.
